After her death in 2005, Rosa Parks was laid to rest under the Capitol rotunda. An honor usually reserved for the United Sate’s most distinguished citizens; Most have held public office. Rosa Parks remains the only woman and one of just four private citizens to receive the honor of resting here after death.
