Oscar Wilde was convicted and thrown in jail on May 25
th, 1895 at 42 for having a sexual relationship with another man. Today, Homosexuality is something that for the most part is accepted and even defended by society but at the time it was considered a serious crime. He was accused by his lover’s father and was sent to Pentonville Prison in London for 2 years of hard labor. Wilde ended up contracting meningitis in prison which lead to his death on November 30, 1900 leaving behind a legacy of witty quotes and a great novel.
